For every holiday, a sign up sheet is posted in the break room for the Camp Counselors to volunteer to work. They have the option of working either one or both shifts. It is first come, first serve, and the open shifts fill up fast!
We love making every Camper feel special on holidays! If they can’t be with their family, we make sure they feel the holiday spirit at their home away from home. Thank you for letting us take care of your pup!

Ruby was looking for a job that she would look forward to every day. Lucky for us, she found Camp Bow Wow – Springfield! Fast forward a year-and-a-half later and Ruby will be the first to agree that time really does fly when you’re having fun!
Ruby has recently transitioned to full-time so you will get to see her a lot more when you drop by. She rarely stops moving while she is at work. During all of Ruby’s shifts, she will do everything from managing play yards, covering the Front Yard, and grooming to taking pictures of the Campers. Ruby is always willing to go above and beyond to help out her co-workers – whether they ask for help or not!
Outside of Camp, Ruby enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Sheldon, and her dogs. Teddy is a five-year-old Black Lab mix, and Bobo is a one-and-a-half year old Great Pyrenees.
Ruby and Sheldon are in the process of starting a farm and have recently added pigs and chickens to it! They will also be adding a family member in September. Ruby is pregnant with her first child, Carter!
Some of Ruby’s hobbies include cooking, reading, babysitting her two-year-old niece, Athena, shopping for Baby Carter, and planning her wedding!
Most Camp Bow Wow – Springfield employees would agree that one of the hardest part of our job is getting the perfect pictures of your dogs. Being the perfectionists that we are, we spend a lot of time patiently waiting for a split second to capture a picture that shows off those adorable smiles!
With that being said, it is near impossible to take a picture without treats. Treats, treats, and more treats are the secret to the pictures that we take! With a combination of good photographers and adorable Campers, we get paw-fect pictures – but we might be a little biased!
After every boarder leaves, we do what we call “deep cleans” on the cabin your Camper called their own during their latest visit. Deep cleans involve dry mopping, vacuuming, mopping, and scrubbing the cot and entire cabin. Each cabin is also steamed at least once a month! We take the time to make sure that every cabin is clean and ready for the next Camper who uses the cabin.
We treat your dogs like they are our own, and we want them to stay in the cleanest cabins possible. It would be an understatement to say our Camp Counselors get their work out in during their shifts but they love your pups and want nothing but the best for each and every dog that visits Camp.
Max and Maya are three and four-year-old Chihuahuas who started coming to Camp in January of 2014 and they have loved it ever since! These adorable siblings make a trip to Camp at least once a week and absolutely cannot wait to get back into Sandy’s Play Yard!
Max and Maya know exactly where to go and often find themselves waiting for us to catch up so we can let them in the play yard! They greet every Camper who enters the play yard with a friendly bark and proceed to show them the ropes! We love the positive energy Max and Maya bring to Camp and especially love when they take small breaks to cuddle with us on the ramps!
